Search Engines: Are there more than one?
In 2011 one can be forgiven for assuming that "search engines" is a typo - surely the singular should have used!?

In actuality, there are still three major search engines and dozens of minor ones, not to mention the scores of specialist search engines. But the reality is that in this day and age the average person will simply use Google, not only to search the web but also to find out about next week's weather, how to get from A to B, what their neighbors' pool looks like from space, where the best Greek restaurant is, find a hedgehog picture for the school project, what the latest news story is, how to spell that word they just can't remember and just about everything else under the sun!

But way back in the dawn of time, 1997 to be exact, Google didn't exist. The list of internet search engines was quite long, the favourites at the time were:
AltaVista
Excite
Yahoo!.
Hotbot
Open Text
Webcrawler
Infoseek
Savvy Search
iFind!
